Ambience
The tiny fast food haven is hardly noticeable as it is tightly squeezed into the center of a strip mall. If you are not aware, the Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe, yes thats two ”p’s”, is a chain originating from New Brighton, Beaver County. I haven’t been to the original joint in well over a decade now, but it’s defintely has more ambience than this joint. As the four of us opened the front door we didn’t make it much further as the end of the line was 12-15 folks deep. Whoa, this place packed to the gills. I looked around, yup the old typical Dog Shoppe. As much as I enjoy the food…. I know I seem kinda harsh and lacking of details for this review, but I’ve been to a Dog Shoppe a million times it seems like. I wasn’t to geeked, but it needed a review.

Accoutrements
Along with my two barkers which I will reveal later as to the type, I order a medium french fry along with a large coca-cola. The fries seemed to be fresh cut as you can notice some potato skin. The soda is served in the almost famous 16oz plastic cups. If you grew up in Beaver County or as many of my buddies call refer to it as just “County” you would have most likely had various styles of these cups in your kitchen cabinets throughout your childhood. I was never a big fan of the fries as they are usually kinda soggy. I always wanted to toss some malt vinegar on them to add some taste. I usually order fries with chili/cheese. Yum. I didn’t order that this trip, but I highly recommended them.

Service
The line moved slow as all hell. Once we finally got to order one of my fellow companions Ryan, relayed to me that he has no cash. I didn’t think they accepted credit/debit cards, so after giving him a hard time I told him I’d buy. Roughly 10 minutes after we walked in we finally got to place our order. We realized they had did accept cards but it was thru one of the tiny swiper thingy machines. Ryan tried using the machine and it said it was a one dollar charge, I instantly started laughing cause they charge you a dollar to use a credit card. He decied to use it anyway but couldn’t get it to work. Stupid piece of crap. Buy a freakin cash register that accepts credit cards! Duh. Welp anyway, once we ordered the food came out fast and hot. Nice.

Hot Dogs
I ordered a chili cheese and a chili onion dog. The price isn’t so bad though it was way way cheaper when I was younger. But ya really can’t complain everything cost more now a days. The bun was soft and fresh. The Dog Shoppe always comes thru in that department. As you can see in the picture they are small franks easily eaten with three to five bites. The chili is mild as is the cheese sauce. The onions were a fresh, crunchy, and cut to a desired size. Mmmm, they were good and washed down well with my coca-cola. They also have sauerkraut franks as well if the chili/cheese/onion variety isn’t to your liking. I witnessed Ryan dip a bite or two of his hot dog into some ketchup. Grrrr… One day he’ll learn.

Overall
Again, I’ve been to a Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe dozens of times of the years so I wasn’t super excited about this venture. Though I’ll never pass up a chance to beat up some barkers with friends. If you’ve never been to one of these places I highly recommend the chili/cheese fry and the vanilla milk shake to go along with your barkers. Good stuff.
